The Folsom Power Plant

The Folsom Power Plant, Folsom, Sacramento County, California

On July 13, 1895, the Sacramento Power and Light Company delivered its first power to the city of Sacramento. On September 9, 1895, Sacramento celebrated Admission Day in electric style. Very large crowds attended the festivities and it is said that the light from the city could be seen fifty miles away. In 1903 the Livermore family sold their power company to the California Gas and Electric Corporation which later became the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. PG&E operated the Folsom power plant until 1952. It became a State Historic Park in 1958.
