The aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Midway, was commissioned in 1945. At the time she was the largest ship afloat. The U.S.S. Midway was decomissioned in1992, having served 47 years of active service in a wide variety of roles including active warfare and peacetime humanitarian efforts. In 2004 it was opened as a naval museum in San Diego Port. |
