A walk around Bodega Head
A huge lagoon faces Bodega Bay and supports sea lions, harbor seals, pelicans, gulls, egrets, and herons in large numbers. The crab and salmon fishing fleets go to and fro as they restock local restaurants with wonderful, fresh seafood.
Some folks are convinced that Sir Francis Drake actually refurbished his ships and scraped their bottoms here rather than at Drake's Bay or in San Francisco Bay. Nobody knows for sure. While you try to figure it out, enjoy a long walk on the headlands and take along a picnic.
In this area, if you prefer, you can enjoy wine-tasting, wind surfing, salmon fishing, a round of golf or, in season, whale-watching. For a refreshing experience, try the local ranch stables which schedule horseback trail rides along the dramatic beaches and hills.
