About The Sea Ranch
The Sea Ranch. This community stretches along ten miles of the coast at the northwestern corner of Sonoma County. Fifty percent of the area is devoted to common areas that are kept free of development. Many of the homes that have been built here have won architectural awards and one has received the distinction of being selected for the distinguished AIA 25 year award, putting it in the same company as Rockefeller Center, the Guggenheim Museum, The United States Air Force Academy, and the St. Louis Arch! Although the original developer stirred considerable concern when the community was first created the homeowners who have built there are very conscious of the need to protect the environment and their aim is "to live lightly on the land".
You may not realize it when you drive along Highway One; but The Sea Ranch is one of the world's most interesting and environmentally-sound planned communities. Its original design team wanted to preserve ten beautiful miles of California coastline while allowing thousands of people to live on it. Usually when land is developed, nature is bull-dozed to make room for houses, streets, garages, driveways and buildings; not here. Nature comes first at the Sea Ranch...scenery, wildlife, grasses, wildflowers, trees, shrubs, coastal views.
To enjoy Sea Ranch you can rent a home for extended periods or stay at the lodge. The Ranch has access to almost 75 miles of walking trails, swimming pools, tennis courts, great golf, and marvellous ocean-watching to soothe the soul. It also has some of the cleanest air in the world and a beautiful dark night sky suitable for star gazing and such...
