Like Sereno del Mar, next door, this small enclave of houses sits just a highway width away from the pounding waves of the Pacific Ocean. Like the rest of the coastline a constant procession of sea birds move back and forth with the winds, the tides and the seasons. Carnet Beach is a part of Sonoma State Beach and a great place to watch oyster catchers at work on the rocks, pelicans fishing off shore a bit and the antics of the ever present seagulls.

Like its sister coastal community Serena Del Mar, Carmet is just a few yards away from the huge waves that batter this coast and erode the cliffs steadily. In the winter of 2002-3 after chunks of rock fell off the cliff edge, local residents realized that the glories of living in a dramatic site like this might have its price. Nevertheless, here at Sonoma State Beach you can stop for a few hours and enjoy the ceaseless parade of shorebirds, seagulls, and in season, long streams of ducks, brant, and geese sliding along a few feet above the ocean. Please remember: Never stand on the edge of the cliff, don't picnic under the bluffs, and never turn your back on the ocean. We value our tourists who come to visit us on the wild coast and we hate it when a rogue wave ten feet higher than the rest occasionally sweeps one out to sea. Stay alert and you'll have a great time with no problems.
