Marin County
Marin Headlands

This park encompasses the entire southern end of Marin County directly across the Golden Gate from San Francisco. The terrain is spectacular with high hills and steep cliffs. During much of the history of our country this area was controlled by the United States military and you can still see historic fortifiications that span the years between the Civil War and the Cold War. Over 300 species of migratory and resident birds can be found in the headlands and there is an extensive network of hiking and biking trails throughout the park. Rodeo Beach and the Point Bonita Lighthouse are popular weekend excursions for local residents.

Conzelman Road snakes up the hills overlooking San Francisco and offers numerous excellent vantage points for spectacular views of the city. If you come to San Francisco you should definitly include a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge and a visit to the Marin Headlands.
