Marin Headlands

This park encompasses the entire southern end of Marin County directly across the Golden Gate from San Francisco. The terrain is spectacular with high hills and steep cliffs. During much of the history of our country this area was controlled by the United States military and you can still see historic fortifiications that span the years between the Civil War and the Cold War. Over 300 species of migratory and resident birds can be found in the headlands and there is an extensive network of hiking and biking trails throughout the park. Rodeo Beach and the Point Bonita Lighthouse are popular weekend excursions for local residents.
