Gualala - Gualala Arts

The origins of Gualala Arts are lost in the mist of the Gualala River, but several old timers can remember when, during the summer a long time ago, local artists hung their paintings on redwood trees for all to admire and perhaps purchase. Over the years the practice was distilled and perfected and a local festival was born - "Art in the Redwoods." An informal organization grew up around the annual event and was eventually formalized into "Gualala Arts." As the community grew so did Gualala Arts and a permanent gallery was added - the Dolphin - in "downtown" Gualala. When the local art community outgrew what could be accomplished in the Dolphin, fund-raising commenced to build a first rate community art center. The result was the Gualala Art Center.

Gualala Arts Center is located in a beautiful grove of redwood trees on the edge of Gualala. The land was donated to the community by the Gualala Redwoods Lumber Company and the building was financed and constructed by the community. The Gualala Arts Center is a facility utilized by artists working in all disciplines. It is also one of the larger public facilities in Gualala and is often rented for weddings and other local events. More information about the facility can be found by visiting the Gualala Arts web site.
