The Avenue of the Giants

Now you enter the largest State Park in California....51,315 acres called Humboldt Redwood State Park. You'll drive 33 miles through grove after grove of redwood giants. The only place in the world you can do this.

At the Pepperwood exit of Hwy 101, stop for a free Auto Tour booklet and you're on your way to the Avenue of the Giants, relics of what once covered much of California.

Plan to get out of the car for an out-of-this-world experience on some of the short trail hikes you'll find on your map. Try Founder's Grove, Gould Grove, or the Burlington Beach trail.

Just like you, in 1939, the wealthy John D. Rockefeller brought his family here to see the great trees. If you are as impressed as he was, maybe you'll donate $2 million; to the Save-The-Redwoods League, just as he did; maybe not. In any case, whatever our assets we all need to do what we can to save more and more redwood groves from the hungry chainsaws.

"The redwoods once seen, leave a
mark or create a vision that
stays with you always..."
