There are no mega malls in Gualala and no pretentious facades. All of the commercial establishments are modest in size and appearance. High pressure sales tactics are unknown and a wander through the shops, boutiques, and galleries is a pleasant and relaxing experience. Shop keepers are friendly, knowledgable, and there when you need them - the antithesis of the usual experience that we have all encountered in the modern American marketplace. In many ways Gualala reminds one of what America used to be like before everything we bought was made in China and most of the stores were big box warehouses with gigantic parking lots. Heck, Gualala does not even have a stop light. |

There is a lot of good food in the area. Pizzas & Cream is a new addition that serves delicious pizzas, pasta, soups accompanied by microbrews and regional wines. |

There is a great deal of excellent photography on display in Gualala and some of the finest can be found in the Alinder Gallery. Among the gallery's collection is work by Ansel Adams. |
