Trinidad

Trinidad, California

At one time this town was the center for the Trinity County Gold Mines; however, Trinidad goes much farther back in history than the 49er era.

In 1775, before the USA was created, a Spanish galleon arrived here with Captain Hereta and Lieutenant Francisco de la Bodega Cuadro. They replenished their supplies of water and food and erected a huge cross on Trinidad Head.

In later years whaling, wood products and livestock became the mainstay of Trinidad's economy. Today, however, other than some wood products the area attracts hunting, fishing and those interested in majestic outdoor scenery. Visitors will find a hearty welcome from the people living in these beautiful natural surroundings.
