The history of Crescent City has been traced back several centuries before the birth of Christ.when native American settlements were sprinkled through the area. |

In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries European explorers visited the region by ship but the very first recorded exploration by land was that of Jedidiah Smith in 1828. European settlers started drifiting into the area in the middle of the nineteenth century and Crescent City was founded in 1854. One look at the long curving beach explains the name. |
