Baker is situated in the desert on Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Barstow. It claims to be the southern gateway to Death Valley and to have the world's tallest thermometer. Gasoline and food are available and there are a couple of small motels. A Greek restaurant serving excellent Greek food is located in Baker. We almost always stop for a meal and usually order gyros, baklava and Greek coffee - a superb meal. (Baker reminds me of a caravanserai set out in the middle of Anatolia.)
