Tonto National Monument - Late Winter

Tonto National Monument is located just off of Arizona Highway 88 twenty-five miles northwest of Globe, Arizona. The Tonto cliff dwellings were occupied from the 13th to the early 15th centuries by people of the Salado culture. There are two ruins. The upper site can only be visited in the company of a ranger. Ask ahead of time for the tour schedule. The tours are not offered all year and the upper ruin is the more interesting. The lower ruin can be visited more easily. Both cliff dwellings are accessed by good trails.
