Wupatki Pueblo was an important part of life on the plain northeast of Flagstaff about a milenium ago. By the 1100s thousands of people were farming here but by 1250 they had moved on. Wupatki Pueblo has some unique features including a partially reconstructed ball court, a blow hole that the ancients believed was how the earth breathes, and an extensive block of rooms. If at all possible Wupatki should be included in your itinerary when traveling in the vicinity of Flagstaff. Several other ruins in the park are worth a visit as well and it is easy to incorporate nearby Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument into your itinerary.
