Williams, Arizona, is located on Interstate Highway 40 thirty-five miles west of Flagstaff and about fifty miles due south of Grand Canyon National Park. Williams is named after Mountain Man "old Bill" Williams who trapped in the area during the nineteenth century. The steam powered Grand Canyon Railway operates between Williams and Grand Canyon Village. During the heyday of Route 66 Williams was an important stop and the town still celebrates its Route 66 history. Today Williams serves as a gateway to Grand Canyon National Park.
