Coronado National Monument - Winter

The Coronado National Monument is located on the border with Mexico a few miles west of the border town of Douglas in Cochise County. It commemorates the Spanish Entrada led by Francisco Vasquez de Coronado in 1540. Although there are still some who question it, most scholars believe that his expedition proceeded north out of Mexico into Arizona through the nearby San Pedro River Valley. From here he moved north and east into New Mexico.
