Petrified Forest National Park
Petrified Forest National Park is located in eastern Arizona and is accessible from Interstate Highway 40 and/or U.S. Highway 180. The Painted Desert is located in the northern section of the park and petrified trees are sprinkled throughout the southern portion of the park. The museum has displays relating to the period when a forest covered the land and huge dinasaurs roamed this region. The process whereby the trees were turned to stone is also clearly described. There are also traces of human habitation dating back more than 10,000 years.
